So it’s November 15th, and I think I’m just going to have to concede defeat. If I were going for the actual 50K wordcount, I should be at approximately 25K by tonight. And I were to be at my personal goal midway point, I should be around 5-10K … I’m nowhere near that.
I am, sadly, at 1100 words. Yes, you read that correctly: one thousand, one hundred words. How pathetic is that?
I just had too many things going on this month. I am officially conceding. Bleh.
Once again, I am not going to stop writing, I am just ceasing my participation in NaNoWriMo this year. *sigh*
It’s November 1st! Woo! Day 1 is a bust. I had a lot of work to do today, and then this evening was spent running to Lloydminster to pick up my SUV from the mechanics and a quick trip to Walmart for pet food. Bleh. I only made it to 300+ words. Tomorrow will be better! I swear!
Or at least I hope. :P
Ooh yes, and to commemorate the new nanowrimo year, I have redone the site in a shiny new layout. Good times. :) I have also put up the original (unedited) first 5 chapters of the first draft of saving Grace. I hope you enjoy it if you happen to come across this site. :)
November is quickly coming up, and I’ve decided to participate once again. I know I really stalled with saving Grace over the spring and summer, but I really want to finish it. I did manage to get my wordcount up to nearly 16K, and I’d like to either get it to 30K or even finish it. Now whether those two are one and the same remains to be seen.
I plan on just starting a new yWriter file to keep the wordcount honest and just continue my novel from where I left off. I don’t want to start any new stories either in this world or any other until I finish this one. I’m too invested, and too intrigued by it to start anything else. I want and need to finish it.
After I finish with the story itself, I want to work on the world-building. I think that’s going to be most difficult part of writing this novel. I want the whole thing to be an entirely realized world, with politics (as the politics of Pian’s family is supposed to reflect the politics in community), with locations, with cultures, etc.
To help with the task, I joined a community on the journaling community DreamWidth, build_a_world. The community is made up of other science fiction and fantasy writers who are writing stories in worlds of their own making. The focus is mainly on geography, politics, languages, etc. and provides resources to help writers with creating their worlds. It’s sort of awesome. :D
Anyway, I hope it’s going to help with the writing a bit. I even joined a writing challenge that uses a poet’s work as inspiration for a 1000 word story (can be original or fanfiction) due in January. I hope to use it as inspiration for a 1000 side story for my novel. Like maybe a tiny Grace/Moran ficlet. Or a pre-saving Grace Pian/Dagnus ficlet. We’ll see. Or maybe I’ll just use it to further explore a character I hadn’t thought to look further into before. We’ll have to see how the poem or stanza of the poem inspires me. :)
I sort of can’t wait!
